CLI.EXE 0XC0000135 - whar it is and how to fix

cli.exe 0xc0000135 error occurs on computers with ATI Radeon videocards.

Typically, you get the following error message after restarting your computer:

" cli.exe - Application Error

X - The application failed to properly initialize (0xc0000135). Click OK to terminate the application."

cli.exe is part of the Catalyst Control Center software that comes with your ATI graphics card. This is used to create system tray icon from which you access the interface to perform diagnosis on any problems that you are having with your graphics card and used for adjust video settings. If cli.exe 0xc0000135 became an issue, try the steps listed below (in the order as they appear).

If you don’t use ATI Catalyst Control Panel, you may simply disable it - that generally resolves the error 0xc0000135 in cli.exe. ATI Catalyst driver exixits in 2 versions, a common one and the Catalyst Control Panel .NET version. The .NET is reported to be slower, use more RAM, and provide no enhanced features instead.

  • Install or reinstall .NET Framework 2.0 - that generally helps resolve the error. You need .NET Framework 2.0 to make control panel application run properly.
  • Try uninstalling and re-installing the ATI Catalyst software.
  • Try to download and install the latest drivers from the ATI site.
  • Remove ATI Catalyst Control Panel from startup. For this, click Start - Run. Print msconfig in the box and press Enter. Then choose Startup and uncheck ATI (cli.exe). Save the changes and restart the error should disappear.
  • Uninstall the ATI Catalyst Control Panel. You probably don’t use this anyway.
